Q. What is the background to EIH?
A. EIH provides liquidity oriented investors with an attractive way of leveraging on India’s growth story.  The objective is to give investors access to a well-diversified Indian private equity portfolio without the obstacles these investments are usually associated with, such as lack of liquidity and large minimum investment size.
   
Q. Can you provide some more background on Evolvence Capital?
A.

Evolvence Capital is an alternative investment company. The company was established in 2000 with a primary investment focus on the GCC and India. Founded by Gulf investors including Sheikh Mohamed al-Thani, vice-chairman of Qatar Telecom, and Khaled al-Muhairy, formerly of the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority, the company provides seed capital for new private equity, hedge and real estate funds, then helps clients invest jointly with the funds and through its own fund-of-funds.

The company focuses on identifying niche market opportunities in the alternative investments space and creating products in that segment.

   
Q. What are the selection criteria for choosing private equity funds?
A.

The principle investment criteria:

  • A primary focus on India
  • A proven track record of achieving superior returns
  • A stable fund management team (i.e. been working together for at least three years)
  • A unique deal pipeline
  • A willingness to share co-investment opportunities
Q. Who are the independent Directors?
A. Khaled Al-Muhairy , the non-executive Chairman, William Knight, the senior independent non-exec, and Mohamed Abdel-Hadi.
   
Q. What is the investment strategy in terms of how long you hold investments in individual companies and what is the exit strategy?
A. On an average, investments through funds and FoF are held for 36 months whereas direct investments are held for less than 15 months. Potential exit options include IPO, buy out/ trade sale (local or multinational), or a sale to strategic or financial investors.
